Blue Link Integrates With Google Assistant

The Google Assistant, a home electronic device that can do everything from turn on the lights to search the Internet for a good paella recipe using voice recognition technology, is now available to control Hyundais that utilize the Blue Link telemetry system. The Blue Link Agent allows you to simply tell your Google Assistant to program navigation, unlock your car or start it up and set the temperature to a specific degree. “We continue to lead the industry with these better customer-focused integrations,” according to Hyundai’s director of digital planning, Manish Mehrotra. “With the advent of Google Assistant’s capabilities, we want to provide Hyundai owners with the comfort of remote starting their car on a hot summer afternoon or the security of remotely locking their Sonata hybrid while it’s parked in the garage at the end of a long day.” This new technology will be available on the 2017 Hyundai IONIQ when it arrives soon at Chapman Hyundai Scottsdale.

Real World Examples of How This Works

Imagine you’re sitting at home and want to try out a new restaurant in town. You can simply tell your Google Assistant to “send the address of Bob’s Burger Joint to my Santa Fe.” The Assistant will find the address and confirm you want it sent to your Santa Fe. Upon your confirmation, you’ll find the address locked into your navigation unit. You can also quiz the Google Assistant about the weather, and then have it set the climate control in your new Hyundai accordingly. If you have a plug-in hybrid Hyundai IONIQ, just tell the Google Assistant to start charging your car and you’ll have a fully loaded battery when you’re ready to go out in the morning.

Features Include Honking the Horn

As with any app, there will be more features in the future, but for now the Google Assistant can take your Blue Link-enabled Hyundai and program the navigation system, honk the horn, flash the lights, start and stop charging, start the car, adjust the climate control and lock and unlock your vehicle. This service will be free for three years on all 2018 Hyundais as well as the 2017 IONIQ lineup. The Hyundai IONIQ hybrid is now available for a test drive at Chapman Hyundai Scottsdale. An all-electric IONIQ and plug-in hybrid will be available later this year. The IONIQ is the first vehicle in North America to offer three different types of powertrains, emphasizing Hyundai’s commitment to clean fuels and environmental accountability.
